| Overview: Searching |
The searches are divided into three main groups: Publications , Publishers and Contacts . Each group has its own search page with relevant search fields and filters. Each search field that you use is cumulative with any others. e.g. If you enter "John" in the first name search field and "Smith" in the surname search field the results will be limited to those with John as a first name AND Smith as a surname.
Where the search field allows you to type in a value such as publication name or contact position, you can perform more advanced querying using the following 'preface' characters.
- '+' the target results will have to contain any previous or following search values in addition to this one.
e.g. good + taste : any returned results will have 'good' and 'taste' in them
- '-' the target results will not contain the following search value
e.g. good -taste : any returned results will have 'good; but not 'taste'
- '|' the target results will have to contain this search value or another entered search value
e.g. good |taste : any returned results will have 'good' or 'taste'
Any search values entered in quotes("") will be treated as one word. If you are entering a quoted search value with single words, then the quoted search value needs to be before any other search values.
e.g. "media market" magazine : any returned results will contain the words 'media market' and 'magazine' with it.

| How can I find staff members contact details? |
If you know the name or position of the staff member you are looking for you can do a search directly for them on the contacts search page.
If you want to find a contact at a particular publishers or publication then you can view a list of contacts under their profile pages. Publications contacts are located under the contacts tab in their profile pages whilst publishers contacts are listed on their main profile page. You can produce a list of the contacts you want be selecting them and pressing the create list button. It will produce a csv list of the contacts and their details for you to download.

| How are search results displayed? |
All content directories and search results in the Media Directory website can be displayed in simple or detailed format. Detailed format usually provides an image and a brief description or summary details where available. Simple format displays the publication name, publisher and category.
You can vary the number of results displayed per page from 10 to 25. When viewing through large sets of results you can scroll backwards or forwards through the result pages by clicking the available '<< Previous' or 'Next >>' links respectively. You can choose to order search results by name, publisher name or category type by selecting the appropriate 'sort by' option.
Sample of Search and Filter options
You can set your preference for simple or detailed results and the number or results to return per page as default values in the account section.
You can choose to add publications to a custom list by clicking the corresponding 'add to list' link or add multiple contacts to custom lists by checking those you require and then pressing the create contact list button.
Searches that return an excessive number of results will be reduced to the first 200 records only. Please see Advanced Searching section to refine your search.
